This isn’t my official birth story post, though I have been writing that in my head for a few days now. That one will take me a little bit longer, but for now I just wanted to take a few minutes to officially announce the newest addition to our family: Cayia June Blythe!
Cayia arrived at 2:56 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2. Cayia is my maiden name (pronounced Kay-uh) and it was our girl name when we were pregnant with Porter as well. In fact, we had talked about using Cayia as a possible name for one of our children before we were even engaged! People have asked if her middle name comes from the month she was born, and the answer is no. June would have been her middle name if she was born in May, too. We chose June to honor the month we were married.
We are over the moon in love with her, and while it seemed liked she would never arrive, now it feels like she was always meant to be a part of our family.
We’ve only been home from the hospital for a little over 24 hours, but it’s strange how everything falls into place. Our house was relatively clean when we left for the hospital, but now it is ridden with burp cloths and bottles, and gift bags, and diapers and a lot of pink (in addition to Porter’s trucks, cars, balls, and sippy cups.) And as I look around, it seems as if it’s always meant to look this way.
The baby sounds and squeaks and sighs quickly brought back memories from Porter’s newborn days, but these additions add the sweetest melodies to the soundtrack we had gotten so used to.
Porter has been absolutely amazing with her, and now more than ever he seems so grown up. A few days ago, he still had some baby in him (at least in my eyes) but now he’s 100% big boy. While this makes me sad in a way, I know he is going to be a great big brother, and eventually–I hope–an even better best friend to his little sister.
More details and pictures to come!
